Updating an earlier report, Temple RB Bernard Pierce suffered a hand injury during Thursday's game and wasn't able to continue. No word yet on the severity of the injury, but Pierce didn't return to the game.
Insight: Now we know by Brown, who started the game, also finished it with more touches the Pierce. We'll keep you posted on the hand injury as more information comes out. (sportsbuff.com)
Temple RB Bernard Pierce rushed 10 times for 57 yards and one score in the overtime win over Central Michigan Thursday.
Insight: That's far less production than fantasy owners were surely hoping for in a tight game like this. What should also concern fantasy players is that fellow back Matt Brown had 16 carries and caught four passes. Keep an eye on Pierce moving forward. (sportsbuff.com)
Auburn QB Cameron Newton followed up a spectacular opener with a solid outing Thursday night in the win over Mississippi State. Newton hit on 11-of-19 passes for 136 yards and two scores, but also tacked on 70 more yards rushing.
Insight: Newton should now be considered a viable SEC starting option. He ran the ball 18 times to go along with 19 passing attempts. That's 37 quality touches, making him a legitimate dual-threat quarterback. He's got five touchdown passes and seven total scores in two games. He's a guy worth fishing for. (sportsbuff.com)
Tennessee WR Gerald Jones will not play this week after missing the season-opener as he tries to recover from a broken bone in his left hand. Right now he's likely out another two weeks with the injury.
Insight: Jones was arguably the team's top playmaker on the outside, so his absence will certainly hurt the offense as it tries to keep up with Oregon this weekend. With WR Denarius Moore back after missing last week, he could be a solid fantasy option. (sportsbuff.com)
Miami RB Craig Cooper, eight months after reconstructive knee surgery, is close to returning, though it's looking more and more like it won't be this week. Cooper and the staff was hopeful he'd be back for this week's Ohio State tilt, but it's looking like a little more patience is in order.
Insight: At this point, even if he did return, you'd expect his impact to be minimal in this game. It's likely he won't play as they give him another week to recover. (Sportsbuff.com)
Wisconsin WR Tandon Doss is expected to be in the lineup this week against Western Kentucky. Doss missed last week's opener with a stomach muscle issue, but appears to be ready to go.
Insight: Doss is one of the better receivers in the nation, though it's hard to figure his fantasy impact thanks to Wisconsin's propensity for running the ball. Still, he's a week-to-week start in most formats and his return could pay huge dividends against Western Kentucky's less than formidable defense. (sportsbuff.com)
UCLA QB Kevin Prince has added a sore shoulder to his ailing back, but the word is that he's expected to be under center Saturday against Stanford.
Insight: Prince wasn't very good in the season-opener and now with shoulder ailments popping up, you have to wonder why the Bruins are tying their fortunes so rabidly to him. He's not a guy you should put much fantasy stock in at this point. (sportsbuff.com)
